Not being raised around firearms, I was scared of them. As time went on I realized that everyone else needs to know how to disarm a firearm or "neutralize" a firearm, as Massad F. Ayoob, states in his book In The Gravest Extreme, The Role of Firearms in Personal Protection. Ayoob’s father emphasized to him at a very early age, making it "thoroughly clear that guns were not to be touched except" in his father's presence. If this concept was taught by all parents to their children, there would be no more accidental deaths caused by children playing with firearms. Children have to be taught to respect the firearms as tools at am early age. The NRA has an excellent program for children called “Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program. If a child finds a gun “Eddie Eagle” tells a child Stop, Don’t Touch, Leave the Area and Tell an Adult. If you’re the adult the child goes to what would you do? Call 911 and secure the firearm until the authorities get there.

With Firearms in the house, I made the commitment to learn how to handle a firearm. Now I am confident in handling firearms: checking and verifying that firearms are unloaded, load most firearms, and store and carry firearms, plus shooting – practice and competition.
