About 5 or 6 months before your CHL expires you will receive a notification from the Texas Department of Public Safety (letter). This letter will inform you that your license will expire on your next birthday and have instructions on how to renew the license. This letter will also have a personal pin number to allow you to log on to the DPS web-site at www.txdps.state.tx.us to verify your application, and pay your state fee. After you complete your on-line transaction the DPS will send your Application Packet.
The concealed handgun renewal class is 5 hours long. You will receive the most recent legal updates, a copy of the updated Texas Related Statues booklet, and a review of Texas Concealed Handgun statues Handgun proficiency and the written exam will be completed during the 5-hour class period.

As of May 1, 2010, renewals are not required to submit a fingerprint card or passport like photographs.
